With remakes and homage's all the rage at the moment
both in films and music, nostalgia is everywhere. Recent years have
given us serious movie remakes such as The Italian Job and
Ocean's Eleven (both of which have now spawned sequels due
in 2005!), tongue in cheek remakes like Starsky and Hutch
and Charlie's Angels, but also remakes that should never
had been attempted like The Ladykillers! [read
Bryan Singer's eagerly anticipated Superman Returns,
scheduled for a 2006 release, finally has a name announced for the
title role - Brandon Routh. The 25 year old actor has previously
appeared in numerous TV series including Will and Grace,
Cold Case and Oliver Beene.

If 2005 is set to be the year of comic book heroes, then
2006 is shaping up to be the year video game conversions! Even after
such dire attempts as ,
and the all action/no story films, the success of (who's sequel is due out at the end of this year) has
given this genre a new lease of life. A few are set to surface in
late 2005 to whet everyone's appetite...

After the recent sucess of comic to film conversions
(Spider-man and its sequel, the two X-men films, Daredevil,
Hellboy and the upcoming Punisher film), next year
will see this trend go into overdrive with a large number of comic
book heroes being brought to the big screen...
A Scanner Darkly
Set in a future world where America has lost the war on drugs,
undercover cop Fred is one of many agents hooked on the popular
drug Substance D, which causes its users to develop split personalities.
Fred, for instance, is also Bob, a notorious drug dealer. Along
with his superior officers, Fred sets up an elaborate scheme to
catch Bob and tear down his operation.
Yet another adaption of a Philip K. Dick book (previous adaptions
include Minority Report, Paycheck and Blade Runner). From the details
currently released, this looks like being an attempt at Jekyll and
Hyde for the 2000's, with Keanu Reeves currently set to play Fred/Bob.
